Bass life stage
Late summer → early fall transition under persistent heat. Cool nights not locked in (lows still ~70°F) — expect a hybrid: shallow dock/grass/creek-back largemouth at dawn, with spotted / Alabama bass still willing to use main-river current when APC units run. True fall shad-run frenzy usually needs a more convincing cool-down. Spawn done; winter pattern not yet.
What’s on the menu: Dated hatch reports thin — most likely mid-September Coosa forage is threadfin / gizzard shad (creek mouths, dock shade lines, current seams), bluegill / bream around shallow cover, and crawfish on rock / riprap / bridge rock once current scrapes the bottom. Shad topwater / moving baits early and on generation; craw jigs on rock when units are online.

Crappie: early-fall brush and bridge pilings (better after nights cool). Catfish: warm-water night bite on cut shad along channel edges. Bream: still catchable shallow for family trips in the cool of morning.
